Everything backers ask us most, in one place - shipping, materials, litter compatibility, dimensions, and more.
A good rule of thumb is 1 Moonbox per cat for maximum convenience, but one Moonbox can absolutely be shared.
The more cats sharing one Moonbox, the more often you'll want to rotate and empty it.
Our current estimated delivery is May 2027 for Batch 1 and July 2027 for Batch 2. These are our current production estimates. If we're able to move faster, we absolutely will. We'll keep customers updated throughout tooling, production, and fulfillment. View the full production timeline →
No. The final Moonbox will be made from injection-molded ABS with a clean, seamless finish. The Stainless version will also include 304 stainless steel surfaces in the major litter and waste-contact areas.
The version you've seen in many of our videos is a 3D-printed prototype used only for testing and development.
Yes. Moonbox will be available to customers in select international markets. International shipping rates, VAT, GST, duties, and other import fees may vary depending on your destination. View available countries and estimated shipping rates →
No. Moonbox locks into place in the neutral position, so your cat won't accidentally rotate it during normal use. We've tested the design with multiple cats without any issues.
Kickstarter was our original crowdfunding campaign, while orders placed through this website are standard Moonbox preorders for U.S. customers only. If you're outside the U.S., you can still order through our Kickstarter Late Pledge page, where we're handling international orders.
If you already backed Moonbox on Kickstarter, you do not need to order again through this website. Kickstarter backers and website customers are part of the same production rollout, and fulfillment priority is based on when your pledge or order was placed and the production batch you're assigned to.
We'll also send monthly email updates to all customers with behind-the-scenes progress on tooling, manufacturing, production, shipping, and the overall Moonbox journey.
Rarely. At the recommended 4" litter level, the curved barrel causes litter to naturally fall back toward the center as your cat digs. If a clump does stick, a quick tap will usually knock it loose. Moonbox also includes a hidden emergency scraper for the rare stubborn clump.
Moonbox has a 14" × 14" (36 × 36 cm) usable litter bed. Since every cat has different preferences, we recommend comparing this measurement with the usable litter area in your cat's current litter box.
Overall: 22" L × 16.5" W × 28" H (56 × 42 × 71 cm). Usable Litter Bed: 14" × 14" (36 × 36 cm). Recommended Operating Space: 32" L × 22" W (81 × 56 cm).
Right now, we're focused on launching our standard size, which is designed to fit the vast majority of cats. An XL Moonbox for larger breeds like Maine Coons is definitely something we'd love to explore in the future.
Most cats should be able to use Moonbox comfortably. Cats are natural climbers, and if your cat can handle a normal stair step, they should be able to get in and out without a problem. For super-senior cats or cats with limited mobility, we're also developing a detachable ramp, which will be offered as a separate accessory.
Moonbox works with most standard clumping litters. Every Moonbox includes both the Standard Grill and Precision Grill, giving you more flexibility across different litter sizes and textures.
Delivers the best Moonbox experience with excellent sifting and performance.
Works with Moonbox, but may affect sifting speed, cleanliness, or overall experience.
Pine pellet litter breaks down into sawdust and needs a different sifting method - we're developing a version engineered for pine pellet systems.
Not this version. Pine pellets break down into sawdust and require a different separation system. A future version designed specifically for pellet litter is something we'd love to explore.
Yes, but the type of tofu litter matters. Traditional larger tofu pellets are usable, but they aren't the best Moonbox experience. Granular tofu litter works much better and has performed really well in our testing.
Moonbox is fully washable. You can hose it down or rinse it in a bathtub. For a deeper clean, Moonbox can be disassembled to give you access to the interior surfaces and removable separation grill. And because there are no electrical components, there's nothing electronic to protect from water.
Yes. The waste drawer has a built-in lip designed to hold most plastic grocery bags and commercially available small waste liners. Moonbox does not require proprietary bags.
For cats that regularly pee against the walls, yes, this can occasionally happen. A few taps from the outside will usually release the clump and allow it to slide down. For stubborn clumps, Moonbox includes a hidden emergency scraper inside the landing pad storage.
Yes. Every Moonbox includes a 1-Year Limited Warranty covering manufacturing defects. If your Moonbox arrives damaged or a part fails because of a manufacturing issue during the warranty period, we'll provide the appropriate replacement, parts, or support.
You can cancel your preorder for a full refund anytime before your Moonbox ships. Once your Moonbox has shipped, sales are final due to the hygienic nature of litter boxes, except where otherwise required by applicable law. If your Moonbox arrives damaged or has a manufacturing defect, it is covered by our 1-Year Limited Warranty.
We see Moonbox as a different approach, not a cheaper automatic litter box. Some cat parents want full automation. Others want something simple, fully washable, and free of motors, sensors, apps, and complicated electronics. That's who we built Moonbox for 🌙
