Moonbox is a brand-new product, not something pulled from an existing catalog - so it starts with custom injection molds and stainless steel tooling built specifically for this design. That tooling takes 2-3 months to machine, test, and adjust.
Once it's approved, a full production run takes another 6-8 weeks: molding thousands of units, hand-assembling each one, and running quality control before anything ships. We've also built in buffer time for the holiday closures that are common across manufacturing, so those delays don't sneak up as a surprise.
From there, units travel by ocean freight - the only way to keep the price reasonable at this scale - adding 3-6 weeks of transit. We release in batches instead of all at once so quality stays consistent shipment to shipment.

Once the campaign closes, we finalize the bill of materials and commission the injection molds and custom stainless steel tooling. Precision tooling at this scale usually takes 8–12 weeks to machine, sample, and refine - this is the single biggest bottleneck in bringing any new physical product to life, and skipping steps here is how products ship with quality problems.
The first units off the new tooling get pulled for real-world testing - sifting performance, seal fit, hardware tolerances, and everyday durability. We adjust the molds and process based on what we find, before committing to a full production run.
With tooling finalized and approved, the factory runs full-scale production - molding, stainless fabrication, assembly, quality control inspection, and packaging for thousands of units at once.
Finished units are palletized and shipped by ocean freight from the factory to our fulfillment centers. Ocean freight is far more affordable than air at this volume, which is what keeps Moonbox's price down - the tradeoff is transit time, typically 20–45 days depending on port congestion and customs clearance.
The first 2,500 Moonboxes arrive at fulfillment and ship directly to backers in this batch, with tracking sent as soon as each unit is on its way.
